Dr. Andy Elwood Madden joins as Associate Director
Andy started at MSU on June 1st, 2025, after almost 18 years at the University of Oklahoma as a Professor of Geosciences, including serving as Director of the Samuel Roberts Noble Microscopy Laboratory from 2019-2025. Andy's main hands-on microscopy experiences are with SEM, TEM, and polarized light microscopy. He is passionate about the benefit of core facilities and wants to support all students, staff, faculty, and industry researchers to solve problems with advanced microscopy.
Andy first became excited about advanced microscopy as an MSU undergraduate in geology, including when he came to the Center for Advanced Microscopy for undergraduate research. He received his PhD in Geochemistry from Virginia Tech as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and went on for a postdoc with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Biosciences and Environmental Sciences Divisions.
Away from the lab, Andy enjoys spending time with family (including cats), playing and listening to music, rock climbing (mostly indoor!) and kayaking. Please stop by and introduce yourself, or email Andy to set up a meeting.
